Identity and Access Management (IAM) is often cited as one of the most complex topics in AWS. It is the backbone of security in the cloud, yet its depth and granularity can make it intimidating to approach.
The official AWS Documentation is nothing short of fantastic. It is comprehensive, precise, and dives as deep as you need to go. However, that very depth can sometimes be a hurdle. When you are just starting out, or when you have limited time to digest technical manuals, facing that vast ocean of information can feel overwhelming.
I built IAM Tutor to bridge that gap.
It wasn’t designed to replace the official documentation, but rather to serve as a friendly entry point - a “bite-sized snack” of knowledge, if you will. The idea is simple: break down complex concepts into small, digestible topics that you can learn at a high level.
Whether it’s understanding the root user, grappling with policies, or making sense of roles, the tool allows you to pick a specific topic and get the essential information quickly. But passive reading isn’t always enough to make knowledge stick. That’s why I included a simple, interactive “challenge” phase at the end of each topic. These immediate questions help you cement your learning before you move on.
By default, the chapters are designed to be taken in order - completing one topic unlocks the next, ensuring a structured progression. However, if you already have some experience or need to reference a specific concept, you can instantly make everything accessible by clicking the “Unlock All” button on the dashboard.
My hope is that this tool makes the world of AWS security a little less daunting and a lot more accessible.
